Institute of Energy – Research Institute (IEn) is one of the largest institutes in Poland conducting research in the field of energy technologies. The Institute is a modern research and implementation center subordinated to the Ministry of Climate and Environment.

The Institute’s activities cover a wide area of energy research: from expert work for the needs of the power sector, to the most advanced future energy generation technologies, such as fuel cells, clean coal technologies and renewable energy sources. The Institute’s advantage is its experienced scientific, engineering and technical staff as well as its modern, often unique laboratory base. The Institute is a member of the Executive Committee of the European Energy Research Alliance EERA and participates in the implementation of numerous international research projects of the European Union.
The mission of the Energy Institute is to develop innovative technologies leading to the creation of a sustainable and safe energy system. Through its research, implementation, expert and advisory activities, the Energy Institute supports sustainable forms of energy generation and consumption, energy saving and efficiency, clean methods of using fossil fuels and the inclusion of renewable energy sources in energy systems.
The Institute began work in the area of nuclear energy in the 1980s. Currently, the Institute’s work in the field of nuclear energy is the extraction of power and the use of nuclear power plant cycles as a source of heat or steam for hydrogen production processes in high-temperature electrolysers and thermochemical cycles.
